Somerset College Community Planting
Regen Australia has been approached by Somerset College to prepare a restoration plan of the creek runnings through the school grounds. This restoration plan will provide a framework for the schools ongoing conservation and environmental education efforts.
The Somerset Creek Conservation Project will aim to rehabilitate approximately 2.6 hectares of land surrounding Wyangan Creek over the next five years.
The restored areas at Somerset will create habitat for local native wildlife and also provide students with an outdoor classroom for nature play, scientific investigation and a whole range of other educational activities.
On the 11th of May the first stage of this restoration plan was put into place through a Community Planting day organised by Noah Jay for his Year 10 Personal Project. The school community planted 2500 native trees to help establish a buffer between the creek and the sports grounds at the school.
Regen Australia is excited to work alongside local schools to support their environmental work
