Weed of the Month: Baccharis halimifolia

More commonly known as Groundsel Bush, this weed has both male and female plants, and it is the beige or brown seeds from the female which are easily dispersed by both wind and water to cause reproduction on such a large scale that it quickly creates devastating under-storeys which carpet and suppress growth of native plants and interferes with fragile eco-systems.

This is why this bushy shrub weed is classified as a Category 3: Not to be dispersed or distributed without a permit because it doesn’t need any help to spread far and wide!
