Bio-retention Basins in Christina Drive, Coomera

Works were recently completed on bio-retention basins located in Coomera adjoining a wetland system near Christina Drive.

An initial primary weed control run of the batters was carried out, and the team used machinery including a Bobcat, Excavator and Tippers to strip and remove all the exotic vegetation and contaminated media in the area.

After all initial works were completed, we installed sugar cane mulch along with biodegradable jute mesh before planting the area out with native tube stock from the Regen Australia nursery.

Mulching is carried out to ensure enough moisture is retained for the planted tube stock which also acts as a weed suppressant in the early stages of the maintenance period.

Until the plants take hold, an ongoing watering and maintenance regime will be critical to the success of the plants and the entire system, especially with more heavy rain on the way this summer.
